8/1 - The getaway game for Shamokin proved to be a positive for them, as they hammered us 9-4. Young Mark Davis took the loss, and as with many young players, he took it pretty hard!
8/3 - 8/6 Game 1 of our series with Greensburg started off with yet another loss in an opening game, 11-5, with Tim Butler taking the loss. It is looking more and more like Tim we'll be starting next season in AAA, as he has been struggling of late.
Game 2 - A nice win for us as Denny White gets win number 12, a 3-2 victory. When you watch him pitch, the guy never changes his demeanor! Good or bad, he keeps his emotions intact!
Before I get to Game 3, I saw what was one of the weirdest innings in baseball, in a game against Greensburg.
See if you can follow this one:
The first batter for Greensburg had a 1-2 count and was complainning about the strike zone. He got ejected as well as a player on the bench and the manager. It went on for 5-10 mintues. Confusion ensued, because instead of a pinch hitter batting, the 2nd hitter came up and hit a home run. I later found out that the batter was called out on strikes because he refused to step back in the batters box. Then with 2 runners on, a player for Greensburg hit a fly ball to the right fielder and he dropped the ball. But the base umpired ruled that it was an infield fly even though it was not even close. The runners did not tag up so we tried for the double play by appealing to first base and the runner was called out. Then the interim Manager for Greensburg got upset with the outcome and complained and then the umpires discussed what happened. The final ruling was that the batter was out on an infield fly and if we had appealed to 2nd it would have been a double play. But we appealed to the wrong base and you only get the chance to do it once so that is why the runners stayed on 2nd and 3rd. It was a very confusing inning, and totally bizarre!!
Game 3 - Well we heard quite a bit about Angel' Bruno, the 20 year old righty from Mexico, and after he "dazzled" us with a four hit shutout, we knew he was the "real deal." Final score was 4-0. He was an excellent pick for the Green Sox! He got a complete game, and looked like he could've pitched another nine innings. He is definitely a star of the future in this league!
Game 4 - This game saw Jesus Castenada break his three game losing streak, and up his record to 6-4, as the Aces won 4-1. This left us exactly where we started with Greensburg in the wild card race, five games back! As we headed for the bus to take us back to Coatesville, I made a call to Devin Forrest to tell him personally, that he was being called up to the "top level."
By the way, here's a great catch by our left fielder Michael Lacy, who is having a nice year in the field and at the plate!
So here are the standings after our split with Greensburg. Still five out of the wild card race and a bunch of teams in front of us!
And as the bus departs, only in Greensburg will you see this!!
