Elite 8 Preview

We're now down to the final 8. Before I hit that sim to next year button I wanted to take a look at the player's total home runs for the tournament so far. Judging by this it appears that we're heading for a Ruth-Bonds final showdown, but as Yogi Berra has proven you just need to hit more than your opponent, or as he once said "It ain't over til it's over".

Tournament home runs:
Ruth - 147
Bonds - 136
Foxx - 117
Stargell - 108
Delgado - 104
Schmidt - 97
Aikens - 94
Berra - 85

Another thing I wanted to check out is how the player is doing overall, because one out of many test runs I had both finalists fall apart for a 1-0 final where they each played in about 5 of the 100 games. That appeared to be a fluke, but just something I'm keeping an eye on. Not sure how to fix it other than force the player to start, but regardless, based on last year's WAR everyone still is contributing at a high level:

Bonds - 10.0
Schmidt -9.4
Ruth - 9.3
Aikens - 8.6
Foxx - 8.5
Stargell - 7.5
Delgado - 7.2
Berra - 6.0

And then finally the matchups:

#1-Barry Bonds vs. #1-Mike Schmidt

#8-Yogi Berra vs. #10-Willie Aikens

#5-Carlos Delgado vs. #4-Willie Stargell

#1-Babe Ruth vs. #2-Jimmie Foxx

The top two matchups will be done today, and the bottom two tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed that Bonds will finally see his demise, but I wouldn't hold your breath either...
