1918 Regular Season Game 23
The Doctor is in!

Senator Pitcher Doc Ayers was good enough for long enough tolast until Boston went into the usual “Self-Destruct” sequence. This gamefollowed the usual course. Tie game 1-1 going into the 8th. Red Soxget two, two-out base runners and can’t capitalize. And of course the Managerhas to get in on the action of helping the Melt down by allowing starting Pitcher Leonard to batleading off the 8th. The next 3 batters Leonard faced in the bottomof the 8th went single, single, double and what proved to be theeventual winning run scored on a WP by Leonard. This Manager needs to learnit’s OK to PH for your pitcher sometimes!
