And you can get scouting reports. Set accuracy to average or below.
Stats-only is about recreating the fog of war that real life GM's operate under.
There's no easy answers to look up. You have to man up and decide about every player for yourself.
It's really rough. Stats-only, and I mean real, no-ratings stats-only, not some hybrid thing, is the hardest way to play this game and it gives you the nearest thing to a real-life GM experience you can have.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.
