Secondly, why would they trade him to the Dodgers, who have a farm system with one or two decent arms at best, when the Cubs have riches galore ? The dodgers could offer everything they have short of Loney (Hanarahan, Ching Fen, Thurston, and Jackson) and the Cubs could outbid them without Guzman (Cruz, Zambrano, Kelton). Good luck hoping to get Kelton- Robbie Alomar might be a better acquisiton, and would be a Bonds'esque improvement on that sink hole at 2nd (Alex Cora).
Don't be so sure my NoCal loving friend.
First, you underestimate the Dodgers farm. La has made great strides in the last few drafts and according to Baseball America, they've had some of the best drafts in the last couple seasons. Yes, their best prospects are still a few years away.
Second, who says the Cubs are that interested? I doubt the Cubs are going to one up LA just for the sake of saying they could. No way, IMO, the Cubs will overpay for Lowell in terms of prospects.
The biggest obstacle facing LA's acquisition is the fact that Lowell can't be a free agent until after next season. Florida can hang on to him, make a run this year pay him arbitration, and trade him before next year's deadline.
