Bracket G - Preview
- Alex Rodriguez - what to say about Arod. I guess he's one of those guys you either love or hate, although I think most people fall in the latter category. As a Yankee fan I have to admit I do too. He's hit 647 so far, and had 424 in the original and 886 in round three. His 18 in round two gives hope for an early exit though.
- Mule Suttles - the Negro League slugger is the second seed in bracket B. Suttles exploded with an unreal total of 1162 in round four, while hit a more realistic 559 in the sequel. The 1162 was inflated for reasons I've outlined before, but hitting 42 in round two proves that Suttles will be one to watch.
- Fred McGriff - the Crime Dog hit 493 home runs in real life, and 556 in the original. His 493 in round three matched his real life totals, and he hit 27 in round two.
- Willie Stargell - Stargell hit 475 home runs in real life and saw success in the original with 429 and round three with 591 home runs. He earned a buy and hit 28 home runs in round two.
- Mo Vaughn - Vaughn hit 328 home runs in real life, and 406 in the original. His 570 home runs in round four earned him a bye for round one and he hit 26 in round two.
- Eddie Mathews - with 512 home runs in real life Mathews only qualified once, in round three where he hit 476 home runs. Mathews hit 37 in round one and 30 in round two so far.
- Dave Winfield - another member of the 400 club, Winfield hit 416 in round three after hitting 465 home runs in real life. Winfield hit 24 in round one and 37 in round two.
- Andres Galarraga - after hitting 399 home runs in real life, Galarraga qualified in the original with 488 home runs and has hit 19 in each of rounds one and two.
- Dick Allen - Allen hit 351 home runs in real life and qualified with 440 home runs in the original. Allen had an impressive 37 in round one, and a more normal 22 in round two.
- Roger Maris - Maris hit 275 home runs in real life and qualified for the tournament in the play-in round. He's hit 31 in round one and 27 in round two.
- Kevin Mitchell - with 234 home runs in real life Mitchell hit 439 in round three. Mitchell hit 39 in round one and 30 in round two.
- Travis Hafner - has hit 200 home runs in real life so far, and 416 in the original and 403 in the sequel. After getting a bye in round one Hafner hit 26 in round two, and he's the lowest seed of any player with a bye.
- Matt Kemp - Kemp's hit 151 home runs in real life so far, and qualified with 432 home runs in the original. He's hit 24 in round one and 20 in round two.
- Gus Bell - qualified through the play-in round and hit 19 in round one and improved to 32 in round two. Bell hit 206 home runs in real life.
- Charlie Gilbert - only hit 5 home runs in the majors, but qualified with 433 homers in the sequel. Gilbert hit 31 in round one and 33 in round two.
- Gorman Thomas - qualified through the play-in round and hit 268 home runs in real life. If his round one total of 45 and round two total of 36 is any indication he'll be a tough round one match-up for Alex Rodriguez. Maybe things are lining up for an early A-Rod exit...
