I'm sure there are upset fans when a washed up popular player is let go, and there are happy fans when some washed up name is signed. But what needs to be verified is that OOTP assigns the correct impact to this.
Winning and history and ticket prices and stadium accessability and a bunch of other factors are more important (in some cases overwhelmingly more important) than player popularity.
Not resigning a 38-year-old Troy Tulowitzki might cost you a dozen season ticket sales. But each win over 85 might gain you 500, and each dollar you lower tickets might gain you another 500. I'm not sure anyone has ever analyzed OOTP's behavior to make sure this is done correctly.
