It will be the best investment you can make in a game, no matter which version you decide. All of the additions that enhance the game are free. You'll find links to ballparks, quick starts for leagues, uniforms, logos and on and on.

But most importantly, you'll have the database of every single player who has ever been in the major leagues -- allowing you to recreate anything you want historically.

One of the neatest features of OOTP 13 in my opinion was the random debut feature where you could play with all the MLB rules, teams, etc. but allow the game to decide what player in history would come in to be drafted in your year of play.

So a young, rookie Roger Clemens, Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Charlie Root, Pete Rose or Derek Jeter could all be among the draft picks.

You're going to love it. Don't be intimidated by the depth and complexity of the game, either. You'll learn how to simplify things so you can get the hang of it at the start.

For example, I would suggest turning off financials, scouting, coaches, injuries, Rule 5 and all of the additional rules just to play a simple game and get the hang of it.

When you play with everything turned on, you'll learn exactly how wonderfully challenging it is to try to run a franchise.

Charlie Root won more games for the Cubs than any pitcher (201), yet was remembered for one pitch to Babe Ruth. Find out more about the 1929 World Series in my book, "Root for the Cubs: Charlie Root and the 1929 Chicago Cubs." See the web site at www.rootforthecubs.com.
