Jr Flyweight Final

#4 (IBF,WBA,WBC & WBO) Yoko Gushiken 25-0 (18) vs #15 (IBO) Humberto Gonzalez 23-2 (20)

Humberto controlled most of the opening round with stiff jabs, Yoko momentarily stunned him with a hook in the final thirty seconds but Gonzalez quickly rebounded with a three punch combo. The Fierce Eagle forged inside in the second round and pounded Humberto to the body with hard lefts and rights, his rough tactics also drew two warnings for pushing down on the neck and low blows, but it was a strong round and he ended it with a wicked uppercut flush on the chin. Yoko continued to rake the body with a ruthless attack, Humberto countered with some clean uppercuts and hooks but Gushiken's volume overwhelmed his foe in round three.

The next two rounds were tight with Gonzalez using movement to avoid elongated inside work from Gushiken and he got his jab working again. In round six Humberto staggered his rival with a beautiful counter hook and he hammered Yoko over the final forty-five seconds landing several telling left hooks that drew swelling from Gushiken's right eye. The seventh was epic, Gonzalez peppered Gushiken early with lefts and rights while Yoko countered with his best jabs of the fight to the body and head, Humberto stunned him with an uppercut and sent sweat flying with a 3 punch combo; Gushiken erupted with two violent uppercuts that buckled the Mexicans legs and he blasted his body with both hands in the final fifteen seconds of the thrilling stanza (18-19).

The two way action continued in round eight, but this time Gonzalez was able to clearly win the round behind a devastating 3 punch combo and an uppercut that snapped back Gushiken's head. Humberto took the fight to the Fierce Eagle in the ninth, drilling his now badly swollen right eye with jabs and hooks and he knocked out his mouthpiece with a right hand late in what was a dominant round for the Mexican. Round ten was a hotly contested round as Gushiken was able to get back to a sustained body attack while Humberto countered with hooks into the substantially damaged eye of his counterpart, late in the round Yoko staggered Gonzalez with a short hook and got in two straight lefts and a hook to the body to potentially take the round.

They went at it in close in round eleven and a left uppercut drew immediate swelling from Humberto's left eye, Gonzalez responded with two violent crosses and they spent the last thirty seconds trading vigorously in the center of the ring with neither man taking a backward step.Gonzalez boxed brilliantly in the twelfth, scoring with stiff jabs and combinations while he thwarted the tired looking Gushiken's offense; Gonzalez did draw two warnings for infractions on the inside, but no points were taken.

Gonzalez continued to carry the action in the thirteenth and fourteenth as Yoko's now closed right eye prohibited him from seeing jabs and hooks coming his way. Feeling dire, Gushiken let it all hang out in the final round and he rocked Gonzalez with a vicious hook a minute into the final stanza, Yoko fired off a series of shots that had Gonzalez in bad shape but Humberto came back with hooks and uppercuts before they traded over the final thirty seconds of an excellent battle. Gonzalez was able to prevent Gushiken from repeating with a well earned UD, 146-138, 145-139 & 144-140
