What about storylines with retired players? Maybe when we get the news item that Player X is retiring, sometimes it mentions that he plans to go into broadcasting, or maybe he wants to become a coach, then we can go into the list of available coaches and offer him a contract.

Or 10 years after Player X retires, we get a news story that he's doing something noteworthy. Or even (not to be morbid), we get a news story 50 years later that a former superstar has passed away at the age of 92 (or whatever age).
