Prado is 29, has never had a season above a .360 OBP in a full season and has a career OPS+ of 109. I was upset when this trade happened until I looked at his numbers.
It is a situation where my perception of a player was clouded by me watching him play 100 times a season.
A good portion of his value is on defense and his flexibility to play anywhere but that is going to diminish as he gets older and has less range.
Delgado could turn into a good pitcher. He had moments where he was very effective.
The real part of the deal is the prospects. How they pan out will determine this deal.
Unfortunately the Braves badly overpaid the bad Upton back in November. Chipper retiring freed up a lot of financial responsibility but that was promptly squadroned by overpaying for B.J. Upton.
