Tucks' Evans Racks Up 4th TU MVP
For the fourth time in his 10-year career Tuckanarra star Lorne Evans has been picked the Tycobbian Union Most Valuable Player. He got the prestigious award for leading the Blue Jays to the RU East pennant with another fabulous season. The ace of Pro Cup champion North Hills David Michael was number two in The Islandian Times MVP voting with his Hawks' teammate Adam Thurgood coming in third. Evans is second to all-time IPA great and Hall of Famer Jack Elliott for the most MVPs in a career. Elliott won it 5 times in a spectacular career, mainly with the High Mesa Cowboys.
After spending his first nine IPA seasons with the Southport Sun Sox, Evans signed with Tuckanarra as a free agent and had a tremendous year, hitting .331 with 46 doubles, 1 triple, 39 homers, 124 RBIs and scored 128 runs. The 29-year-old left fielder was the IPA leader in runs and topped the Tycobbian Union in two-baggers. Evans, a future IPA Hall of Famer, is a 7-time All-Star, 5-time Golden Bat winner and twice a Gold Glover with a career .315 batting average, 403 roundtrippers and 1015 RBIs.
David Michael cranked out a 26-13 record and a 2.80 ERA for the Pro Cup-winning North Hills Hawks this season. Michael tied Cold Creek's J. J. Gillespie for the most victories in the IPA this year. Second-year man Adam Thurgood really blossomed this year with a .329 BA, 35 HRs, 114 RBIs and 107 runs for North Hills, giving the Hawks a dynamic duo on the mound and in the field.
