Not a single media outlet investigated the passing of this girl? That's plain negligence. The story sounded much better apparently, so they ran with it. Sometimes, fiction sells better than truth.
His Grandma? I think the body was proof enough.

1) He wasn't in the National Spotlight until Notre Dame started winning game after game. The GF/GMA death's haven't been a huge focus of his stardom. His play has, thus there wasn't a real need to investigate. Had he somehow revolved his spotlight by exploiting the deaths, I could see how someone would want to look into it.
2) Don't you think Te'o (and all other collegiate atheletes) have a right to privacy since they aren't paid for their services? I fail to see how it's the media's job to investigate innocuous family matters involving students.
3) How is it negligence? Who was hurt (other than Te'o) by the media not doing "their" job?
4) If you want to call out the media on not doing their due diligence regarding Notre Dame affairs, I suggest you look elsewhere.
