I could blow you away with stories of players who 'fell out of favor' by being viewed with an organizational lens.
One the just jumps in my head was Lyle Overbay. Bob Brenly absolutely, unequivocally, did not like him, why I don't know.
Check out his 2003 numbers. Add to that he came to the big leagues as a hitter that kept copious notes after games, when I spoke with him about it "I want to manage someday, and there's something I learn every night, I don't want to forget".
We sent him back to AAA and I think he was hitting like .279. He was an outstanding 1B too.
You cannot get caught with what I always thought was a unrealistic internal perspective.
