United States - Bantamweights - Semi-Finals & Final
Semi-Finals:
Pete Herman vs Paulie Ayala - There were a couple of good competitive rounds, but for the most part both men preferred to stay away from one another which made for a dull low scoring affair. It went the distance with neither man landing a telling blow. The judges scored it 7-6 Ayala, 9-4 Herman and 7-5 for the split decision winner Ayala as he deposes the #2 seeded Herman.
Terry McGovern vs Al Delmont - McGovern was like a bull in a china shop, charging forward and smothering Delmont with punches at every turn, scoring a knockdown in the 7th. Delmont seemed nearly out on his feet in the 12th when he landed a shocking knockdown of his own with a perfect combo in a round of the year candidate. McGovern continued dominating after that, scoring knockdowns in the 14th and 15th to win the 11-3 decision on all 3 cards.
Final:
Terry McGovern vs Paulie Ayala - A fast and furious bout with McGovern doing a great job of closing the gap and scoring only to have Ayala counter furiously then slide away. Ayala built up a lead but in the 7th it was all McGovern as he hurt Ayala early and often until a perfect uppercut put Ayala on his back for the 10 count and sent McGovern to the World Tournament with a stellar 6-0-1 (5) record.
