GAME 27
A 1 on 2 out 9th inning rally capped by Bill Alexanders RBI single made Dave Winston (1-1) the winner and Ernesto Cruz got the final 3 outs for his 11th save. Eric Coates was 0-1 with 4 walks, scoring twice. Gerald Wright was 3-4 with an RBI in the loss. Chartier was 1-4 with his 4th HR and his 8th stolen base.
CHI 6 DAY 5 (20-7 +5)
GAME 28
I thought we might see magic today, Alejandrez kad 6 k’s through 3, and 10 through 5, he ended up with 12 in 8.1-5-2-2-0-12 to move to 4-1. Luis Chavez drove in 3 on his 8th HR. Eric Coates walked 2 more times, and scored 3. Chartier was 3-5 with 2 runs on his 6th double.

Chicago inks star to 5 year extension:
The IBL career leader in home runs will be wearing the Chicago colors for at least 4 more seasons after this one. Franchise cornerstone Bill Alexander and the club agreed to terms on a 5 year 60.7M dollar contract extension today. The slugger ‘left money on the table’ according to his agent, but wanted to remain in the one place he’s known since the IBL was founded 5 years ago. “They’ve been good to me, and I think I’ve been more than good to them. I know the fans dig me and want me here, so this is a good thing for everyone”
(It’s a good deal for both parties, ya he left money on the table (hitting .185 while saying that btw) but he’s 29, and health is now something I know he thinks about, because we do. He’ll make 10.3 to 12.5 million as a base, nice little all star bonus and if he’s still a rock star at 34 I’ll pick up the 15.9 option without a second thought. The fans do ‘dig him’ and they went berserk, interest going from 78 to 89! But he said something to me before the press conference that grates on me. “I know the fans will be happy to read that I’m sticking around”, bah, please. The fans will be happy when you get your average over .250, the fans will be happy when you hit 40, and drive in 120, stop doing that and the fans won’t be happy about anything. Speaking of which, he’s clearly our most popular and well liked player, but Chartier has dropped to 3rd, I wonder if that’s the contract talks? Hugh Collins is 4th, Cruz is 5th, I’ll give you 5 guesses as to who is 2nd??? No way you get it on the 1st try! Also, we now have a payroll of around 65.7 million with arbitration numbers speculated in, and 3 open contracts. Chartier, Alejandrez and backup catcher Rafael Flores. I’m going to let Alejandrez keep pitching for a deal, see if he comes to me, and around the break maybe gauge interest. Chartier is likely a no go, and Flores we’ll allow to walk. Paul Riggs is the deal I’d like to do before the year ends. His arb number is looking to be near 6.)
GAME 29
Bryan Rogers is making things harder than they need to be. The team hits when he pitches, but I’ll be damned it his 7-7-2-2-4-9 wasn’t way harder than the line looks. Ken Johnson came in for a mop up inning and walked two, gave up a hit and a grand slam before getting 3 outs. A 6 run second ended this one early. Ron Miller was 3-4 scoring 3 times, Paul Riggs was 2-3 with 2 runs and 2 RBI’s. Pedro Salinas drove in 2 with his 7th double.
CHI 9 AZ 2 (22-7 +6)
GAME 30
Let’s play this game again. Want to hear the crazy thing about a SP giving up 10 in 4.2IP? Your closer saving his 12th. Zamora had a nightmare 1st, giving up 5, I was near pulling him in the 2nd when he gave up 3 more (he probably should have come out then), and he got the last out. Trying not to suck the pen dry I let him go out for the third, he retired 7 straight into the 5th and gave up a 2 out 2 run homer to Francisco Hernandez (for a final ugly ass line of 4.2-11-10-10-1-2). He’s got a 9 ERA, and it’s mostly my fault for leaving him in too long. However, the game actually started around then. As the offense scored 13 runs over the next 6 innings and won 13-10. Luis Chavez was 2-5 with his 9th homer, Salinas was 1-4 with a homer (9) and 3 RBI’s (25). Jean Chartier was 3-5 with 2 runs and 2 RBI’s (18). Wes Morgan was 3-4 with 2 RBI’s (22) and Eric Hudson was 3-5 with 2 RBI’s (20) as well.

INJURY NEWS
31 year old Staten Island Closer Eli Gill will miss up to the next 12 months after surgery to repair a torn flexor tendon was performed today. Gill was the teams closer prior to shoulder surgery last March, and he missed the first 4 months of the season after that. Gil had 126 saves from 2012-15.
GAME 31
Walt Thompson (3-1) is on a roll. A 9-2-0-0-3-10 2 hitter today to lower his ERA to 1.79 on the year. Jean Chartier was 1-3 with a 2 run double before being hurt in the 5th. No word on the extent yet (the main reason I’ve been reluctant to commit that much money for that long).
CHI 3 COL 0 (24-7 +7)
INJURY NEWS
He’s got a strained calf and is likely shelved for 3 weeks. He’s on the 15 day, and John Johnston will come up since he can play all over the IF and offers a RH bat to Harris LH for the backup IF spot.
CONTRACT TALKS
Well that didn’t take long. Alejandrez came knocking with an offer in hand. It might as well have been a hand full of dog poop, as his ask was a 9 year 171 million dollar beauty. I made him a counter, hell he made the effort, of 4 (with the last year a team option) for 50.3 million, with a starting point of 10, up to 12 the 3rd and a 15 million team option. He countered with 6 x 18.45…… This is likely going nowhere fast… I upped the base 450 a year, he came back with 6 x 18.22. I think I need to take this call Alfredo…
GAME 32
Pedro Salinas hit into a game ending 6-4-3 with runners on 1st and 2nd and 1 out. Ken Lee (4-1) went the distance in a 8-6-2-2-2-5 loss. Lorenzelli and Hudson had 2 hits each.
COL 2 CHI 1 (24-8
ORG NEWS
Bakersfield SP Bryant Thomas struck out 17 in a 4-1 win today. The 24 year old is 3-1 3.93 in 6 starts with 46 K’s and 15 walks.
(If his control can improve he has a legit shot)
GOOD GAMES
Marshall Wall (LV) tossed a 5 hitter for his 2nd shutout of the year in a 5-0 win over Houston. He’s 4-2 3.40 on the year.
BIG TRADE NEWS
New York acquires all star Closer from Michigan:
The Knights have acquired 2 time all star and 2015 Rivera award winner Sherwood Jacobs and 3 million dollars from the Battlecats for a stable of prospects. Jacobs was the FL leader in saves in 2012 (46) and 2015 (41) and is 6th all time with 173 (tied with Nicholas Clark (EDM) and Bill Barlow (SAC). Michigan, which appears to be rebuilding 32 games in, gets Peter Sweeny (C) who was signed out of Canada last year, Enrique Reoriano (OF) a prospect signed out of Cuba this past February and Pepe Luna (1B/3B) the Knights 20th round pick in the 2014 draft out of Clemson. Luna was a 2016 Short Season All star. New York is 19-13, 3 games ahead of Staten Island in the Empire, Michigan is 11-21, 13 games out in the Midwest.
GAME 33
Alejandrez (5-1) is making a contract push, that’s all I can think. He went 8-4-1-1-2-5 before tiring after a leadoff single in the 9th and he hasn't seen a 9th inning since watching film of a game on tv.. Lorenzelli was 3-5 with 3 RBI’s (4) on 2 doubles (2). Chavez, Morgan, Hudson and Coates had 2 hit nights.

INTERESTING TRADE
The San Antonio sent 28 year old P Ed Pope (nothing special, a career minor leaguer it looks like) and their 5th pick to El Paso for 19 year old OF prospect Jose Torres. Torres was the Diablos 5th rounder out of Blue Valley HS in Kansas. Scouts think he’s a hitting coaches dream, no pop, not much speed but he can put the bat on the ball and projects to have a decent eye. A solid OF in the corners with a cannon too.
