MOVES AROUND THE ORG
Mark Williams was 10th in the league in 2013 with 14 wins, and had a 4.31 ERA in 29 starts over 177.2 IP. That was followed by a good 13-7 4.69 campaign in 32 starts but as my organization has improved top to bottom my wants for SP now have to include stamina. I need my starters to eat innings. He’s a serviceable starter but not in my rotation anymore, and he’s 28. He’s pitched well enough someone will give him a big league job and my job in return is to find that for him, and improve the organization in return. In most deals I have put out there Alaska GM Ted Johnston continually puts reliever Jake Ellison up as ‘available’. He’s a 25 year old flamethrowing lefty who is a bullpen arm, and gets righties out almost as well as lefties. His high 90’s fastball is one of the leagues best and he compliments it with a serviceable circle change. He’s making the minimum, has 3 options left, and is now in my organization. Knowing full well the need for SP I take their 3rd rounder as well, 88th overall, and give back my 5th, 127th overall. A huge ‘win’ for me from every angle. (Until Mark Williams shuts me out in a playoff game or something stupid like that.)

(OUT OF CHARACTER COMMENT: It’s amazing how ‘fun’ games give their fun. For many Skyrim was amazing as much for modding as it was for playing. Here, it’s just the ‘feel’. What other sports sim can you ‘scour’ the minor league free agenst hoping to pull a kid out of the pile and turn him into something. To be honest my biggest nightmare right now is running into a ‘game killing bug’ such as finding out something I believe to be true about the mechanics, isn’t. It’s the main reason I don’t ask ‘how’, I never do when a game feels ‘perfect’, as this one does, now back to the Iron Pigs and Opening day.)

I am thinking that 5 seasons is enough history and enough ‘stuff’ to do a pre season ‘magazine’ on the upcoming year, a breakdown of the ‘home team’ with a look around the league. If it’s manageable I am going to give it a shot. I’ll at least give a “Press guide” look at the 25 players heading north for Chicago.
