Off season stuff
1/26/13 Pittsburgh sent 25 year old OF Dave Palmer to West Michigan for 28 year old MR Joseph Horton and 18 year old SP prospect Vincente Castillo. Horton has pitched in 74 games with 2 saves, a 5-0 record and 64 K's in 85.2 IP, he looks to be a guy that can anchor a pen and close if needed. Our scouts think Castillo could be a back end to mid rotation kid if he fills out. He was the White Caps #1 pick in the 2013 draft (18th overall). After 75 minor league innings and 68 K's it appears WMI isn't as high on this kid as they were 6 months ago. A heavy price to pay for a guy that will DH. Palmer figures to move into the 5 hole in West Michigan. Scouts do like his power, and gap power, and he has a good eye for the zone but his 63 games of IBL play brought a 216/303/377 line with 6 HR's and 19 RBI's. He can't play in the field, not if you want balls caught anyway.
