Washington, Chicago Confirm Deal
Monday, January 13th, 1936
It's all done except the paperwork. The Washington Senators and the Chicago Cubs have agreed to a trade that will send 28-year-old reliever Josh Billings to Chicago, while 28-year-old minor league reliever Snipe Hansen will be shipped to Washington. A top front office executive with the Senators described the trade talks as "quick and easy." "We're glad to get this deal done. We think it's something that helps our ball club and it didn't take too long at all to sort this one out," he said.
During his career, Billings has appeared in 87 games and captured 3 saves. To date he has 15 wins, 18 losses, and a 3.69 ERA.
Hansen has appeared in 108 games in his career and claimed 2 saves. He has 35 wins and 38 losses and a 4.14 ERA with 163 strikeouts in 663.2 innings.
Veteran 3B Monroe Settles on Senators
Saturday, February 15th, 1936
John Monroe might be in the twilight of his career, but he is not going to leave the stage before the final act. Today the 37-year-old scribbled his signature on a $12,960-a-year deal with the Senators.
Some fans openly questioned the signing, saying they would prefer the club use its resources on younger talent.
In his career Monroe has played in 1683 games, batted .280 with 76 home runs and 1650 base hits.
