Subject: Free Agents File

Today, players who are eligible can file for free agency in the Continental Baseball Association. Teams have the entire offseason to negotiate contracts with the players and sign them.

This year's key free agents include:

• RF Jeff Johnson, age 32, 2006 w/Houston-Detroit: .310/.389/.479, asking $20Mx5
• 3B Jonathan Thomas, age 41, 2006 w/Chicago: .285/.376/.454, asking $20Mx4
• SP Rob Spearman, age 34, 2006 w/Atlanta: 19-8, 3.09 ERA, asking $19Mx4
• SP Chris Montgomery, age 30, 2006 w/Denver: 15-10, 3.41 ERA, asking $17Mx9
• RF Justin Holden, age 30, 2006 w/Seattle: .261/.352/.482, asking $16Mx6
• SP Harold Gill, age 30, 2006 w/San Fran: 15-9, 3.83 ERA, asking $14Mx6
• SP Rafael Torres, age 30, 2006 w/San Fran: 15-13, 3.35 ERA, asking $14Mx7

There are several players here that would have tempted me at one time or another. Torres and Montgomery are top pitchers in their prime and Johnson is a premier leadoff hitter. However, we won’t be in the market for any of these guys with our roster virtually set already.
