This is a great question. I'm answering from a new player perspective, but I try to develop prospects in a 'realistic' way and some of what's in the manual has worked out in my games - for example, young players have burned out from being brought up too quickly. I still ask myself if I'm just seeing statistical variance or a real piece of game code in action.
For those of you with more experience, have you found situations like this to be a result of the software? How about the opposite end: keeping a good prospect down to long and missing his 'window of opportunity'. I believe I've experienced that as well but again wonder if I'm just seeing the unpredictability of player development.
