Should I use minor leagues, or just use the majors?
If I just use the majors do I get to use a reserve roster?
Any tips would be appreciated. What's the best way to set this up?

I have My History of The White Sox League that I am now in 2074. I started in 1901. I did not have the original players that played for the Sox come in except 1901. I had a player draft since I was changing history by being bad the 1st 10 yrs ok the next 10 and dominant 1923 thru 1954 then sucked again for 25 yrs. While I still went after many former Sox players I had Babe Ruth in 1915, Joe DiMaggio in the 40's.
I used the PCL as the AAA for MLB until 1950 then switched to their modern 2011 affiliates.
Yes if you have no minor leagues you will have a reserve roster.
You would have to change the logo and uniform as needed. I am sure you know about the 1901-2010 uniform set. It is a must have for historical leagues.
If you use full minors you can turn on ghost players and would need to the 1st few seasons as there will not be enough players to fill up past AAA. With ghost players off and more then AAA the game will create misc players, some of which are potential HOFers.
