2033 IPA Pro Cup Final Series

Elnora Noses Out EP 6-5 In 14th
The opening game of the 2033 IPA Pro Cup Finals lived up to its billing... two evenly-matched teams battled 14 innings before Elnora nosed out East Point 6-5 on Matt Boyd's run-scoring single at State Fair Park, the All-Stars home stadium... the All-Stars had to come back three times to win the game... they trailed 1-0 after 7 innings, 4-3 going into the last of the eleventh and 5-4 heading into the bottom of the fourteenth... 3 errors really hurt the Panthers and cost them 3 runs.
Both clubs had many opportunities to break open the game, but just couldn't do it... Elnora left 12 on base and East Point stranded 13 runners... the All-Stars got only 8 hits, but picked up 10 walks, while the Panthers smacked 15 hits... Elnora got its runs on RBIs by RF Pettis Pentleton (.345), CF Travis Glass (.234), 3B Danny Bierhoff (.322), pinchhitter Ulo Gunder (.400) and Matt Boyd (.250)... leading the way for East Point were LF Sherm Keller (.353) and C Chris Cardinale (.370) with 3 hits apiece... CF Sean Flynn (.340), 2B Tetsu Tanaka (.327) and 3B Bob O'Brian (.500) added 2 hits each... 1B Jaxon Shatner (.212) had the game's only homer that put the Panthers up 5-4 in the top half of the fourteenth, however they couldn't finish off the All-Stars, who rallied for 2 runs in the last half .
Both starters had good outings... it was a scoreless duel for the first 6 frames... Jeremy Sellers worked 8 innings for Elnora, gave up just one run on 8 hits with no walks and 4 Ks... while East Point's Dixie Brooks allowed 3 runs - one earned - on 5 hits with 5 walks and 5 strikeouts... Lucien Vachon (2-0/6.23) collected the win, although he permitted Shatner's homer in the fourteenth... in a spotty effort Stephen Edwards (0-2/3.53) tossed 5 and two-thirds innings in defeat, gave up 3 runs on 3 hits and issued 5 walks.
