Hmm, the letters from Smallwood and Slack are almost unreadable - I need to figure out a better font to use that will transfer well enough to read.
I'll 're-print' them here:
To Mr Jack Slack, Thorpe, Norfolk
Sir,
You are aware of my former standing as champion and surely know of my recent activities which once more place me in the high standing of those that know the London prize ring well. I therefore challenge you sir to a meeting on a date and at a location of your choosing to settle the matter now before us.
Your most obedient servant,
T. Smallwood
To Mr Thomas Smallwood, London
Sir,
With all due respect, there is no matter amongst us which requires resolution. I remind you that the laurels were seized from your tepid grasp by an elder long-since himself vanquished and embarrassed. I shall take up dobbs with the Easterner of great girth before year end and have many other matters to consider.
Respectfully,
J. Slack
