San Francisco pitcher Madison Bumgarner put on a show today and walked away with a 9-0 shutout victory over the San Diego Padres, throttling them on 2 hits. He just cruised through their lineup, fanning 5 and walking 1 in a strong outing. Checking out his stats for the season, Bumgarner has notched 5 wins and 4 losses in 12 starts, 3.03 ERA and struck out 61 batters in 77.1 innings.
"He was very efficient and he hit his spots," his manager said. "He stayed down in the zone and stayed away from the middle of the plate."
The Padres offense was dismal, with the only bright spot, ironically, being Joel Pineiro who was 2-2 at the plate. For some strange reason, Pineiro went all 9 innings despite allowing 12 hits, 9 runs, 6 walks while striking out 3. Joel really struggled with his control, doubling his walk count in one outing. In his last two starts, his ERA has jumped from 2.17 to 3.75. It kind of makes you wonder if there is something wrong with him.
