Bat Champs Honored By IPA
The Islandian Pro Alliance announced that Dayton McCall of Cape Coral and Kelvin Cassidy of Rocky Rapids won the league's batting crowns this season. McCall, a 27-year-old third baseman for the Hurricanes, topped the Tycobbian Union with a .339 BA. For the season he cranked out 155 hits with 14 home runs, 67 RBIs and 58 runs. Cassidy took the Ruthlandian batting title with a .344 average. The Snappers 23-year-old shortstop hit 34 home runs, drove in 90 runs and scored 83 times in 136 games. This was the first time the winners led the league in hitting.

Cassidy won a tight race with rookie catcher Stan Stanek of Crystal Lake, who batted .340 with 28 roundtrippers, 105 RBIs and 89 runs. Veteran infielder Leevi Viri of Valka finished third with a .338 mark, 23 homers, 85 runs batted in and 101 runs scored.

McCall just barely beat out Babe Hankins of the Kenwood Wildcats, nipping him by one point. Hankins hit .338 with 28 home runs, 119 RBIs and 84 runs. Winding up third was Charley Kota of the Chicopee Braves, who chalked up a .333 BA, hit 22 home runs, scored 110 times and drove in 74.
