Everything was going right for the Padres until the 8th inning, when the team of Ernesto Frieri and Alfredo Simon allowed 10 hits, 10 runs and 3 walks and blew open the game. Frieri, who failed to record and out and allowed 5 hits and 6 runs, earned himself a trip down to the minors (which he has to pass through waivers to get to). The loss snapped a 4-game winning streak by the Padres.
The first 7 innings went pretty smoothly, Andrew Parrino was ejected in the 2nd inning for arguing balls and strikes (afterwards we learned that Parrino would be suspended for 4 games). But the Padres led off the game with a 3-run homerun by Kyle Blanks, and added another run off of a Yorvit Torrealba single. Torrealba was 2-4 with 1 RBI and 1 run.
