What I have started doing is to leave my lineup and depth chart pages empty.

When I start a game, I go to the "MyTeam Lineups & Starting Pitcher" screen, then customize the display to show "Status Information". This displays status information for each player. Because nobody is in the lineup yet, the color coding of player names can be used to quickly identify tired, suspended, or other players not suitable for the lineup. I can also glance at the status information and see everything I need to plan my lineup for the game.

This practice eliminates the need I mentioned in my original post. I now think the game, without any changes, is capable of handling what I wanted!
