Try creating an historical league and choosing 2012 for start year (worse case is you start at 2011). Add 1 level of minors otherwise all you will have is reserve roster. You can find AAA on Wikipedia. I personally haven't tried this but I don't see why this would be any different then if you started a league in 2010 or 1999.
Yeah you will see options on the left side, so if they have stats you can choose batting or pitching, fielding etc.
