Team full of chokers?

Bought this game for my iPhone about a month ago, really enjoying it. Been travelling a lot of late and it's really helped pass some time. I played a few seasons as the Diamondbacks (my team) to get myself used to how the game worked before diving into a full career as the Cubs (mainly for their market size) with a full fantasy draft to spread out the existing talent pool. My issue ( or rather topic of discussion) is this:

Due to a $190m cap per year, I am regularly able to put together a very strong team. I have just finished 2018 (7th season), making the playoffs 5 times. The 2 years without playoff ball were rebuilding years without signing type A and type B FA's and generally purging cap space at the same time. Over my 7 seasons I've compiled a record of 671-463 (.592). This latest season, I managed to win 114 games, 2 shy of the MLB record. In my 7 seasonsI have 4 playoff game wins. That's games. Not series, not titles, but games lol

I don't want to win the WS every season, that's dull. I also fully intent to play a career with a small market team so I can't just sign up whoever I please and load my roster, but at the moment I'm just at a loss as to why my team is so terrible as soon as I make the playoffs. I know the sample of 5 seasons in the playoffs isn't a lot, but it still seems pretty strange. In the 114 win season, I lost 3-0 to an 87 win Arizona side that has 1 4.5 star player, 2 4 star players and the rest of the roster is 3 stars or less. My team has 17 4 star or better players lol I have a pitcher that I drafted, he's 27, Chinese, has a career W-L of 70-34, career ERA of 2.69, 4 time All Star, 1 time NL Cy Young. He's 0-5 in the playoffs :-D

I guess I just wondered if anyone had any post season tips. I generally sim the regular season and use the game itself as me just being the GM, but then I watch and manage games in the post season. I know baseball, tactics, hit and run, match ups etc. so it's not like I'm hammering my starters into the ground or have no idea what I'm doing. But every game the CPU gets the most timely hits from terrible players, their CPU pitchers all become lights out, and my batters who have been on fire for 162 games suddenly forget how to swing a bat

Help wanted, or shared experiences welcome lol
