Bland has been in a sophomore slump all season. Byrne has moved him around in the lineup to no avail. He is the catcher of the present and future, so Byrne has decided to just bat him eighth and not worry about his offense. He has started to hit in that spot, so maybe he was putting too much pressure on himself. Or maybe it is coincidence.
