Chip Davidson continues to impress in his rookie season. He pitched eight shutout innings to beat Sacramento and improve his record to 11-4 with a 3.45 ERA.
CF Manuel Jaramillo left Fridays game with back soreness. He is expected to miss the rest of the regular season (two weeks) but will return for the playoffs. McGlone will play center field in his place.
Atlanta, Philadelphia, and San Diego clinched their division titles this week.
Young Seattle pitcher Luis Pokey Gonzalez (13-14, 3.98) will have elbow ligament reconstruction surgery and is expected to miss all of NEXT season.
Lexington swept the Fresno Plunder 3-0 to move on in the AAA playoffs and will face the St. Paul Chariots for the right to defend their 2002 AAA title.
Dayton advanced to the second round of the Class-AA playoffs by defeating the Albuquerque Sky Chiefs 3-2. Dayton will play the Lincoln Rowdies.
We will spend the last two weeks of the regular season on the road, but we still have home games remaining (in the playoffs). Get your tickets now!
This week: 3 at Los Angeles, 3 at Milwaukee
New York SP Jesus De La Cruz pitched a 4-hit shutout vs. Washington, improving his record to 23-5 with a 2.22 ERA. You may recall that De La Cruz was the big free agent acquisition of the off-season, going from defending champ Denver to New York. The Monarchs are certainly getting a good return on their investment. De La Cruz may challenge Jorge Figueroa (19-4, 1.62) for the Outstanding Pitcher Award in the Patriot League.
