I've always played historical, but I recently had an idea to set up a fictional league that had 24 or so teams that were all based on US cities I've vacationed to or visited. And then I'd make the team names based on something either commemorative of that city, or maybe a personal trait or something that happened to me while I was there.
For instance I went to Coral Gables in FL for training once and ate at an old boxers restaurant. The wait staff reminded me of the mob, so one of my team names would be the Coral Gables Gangsters.
