And for the good people reading my nonsense, here's my textures:

Jersey texture, set to multiply, UNDER sleeves, logos, pinstripes, etc. (this was taken from the new NFL nike football jerseys...)

Cap Bill texture, set to overlay

Cap texture, set to multiple, set just above cap color, under logos, bill, button, etc...

Also, I use gimp, so photoshop etc users might have to fiddle. (actual texture from MLB cap!)
