Everybody else did a good job of discussing the mistake on OOTP's behalf, so I will answer the question posed about rehab assignments.
Yes, you can send the player to a rehab assignment when he is healthy again. This is just like any regular Rule V player who gets injured during the season, you put him on the DL, then rehab him. Similar to what most teams do to hide their Rule V guys.
