2012 Season Simulation Results
First, OOTP 13 looks great! Fantastic job, guys!
Second, I had to start a league with the Major League rosters and simulate out the season. Thought I'd share the results.
AL EAST. Tampa took a strong lead, 8 games at one point in the middle of the season, but this year they choked and it was Boston who surged to win the division by 1 game. Yankees finish last!
BOSTON (90-72), TAMPA (89-73, 1 GB), TORONTO (85-77, 5 GB), BALTIMORE (82-80, 8 GB), NEW YORK (78-84, 12 GB)
AL CENTRAL. Mediocre division with almost all teams vying for the lead at some point. Detroit wins it with a .500 record.
DETROIT (81-81), MINNESOTA (80-82, 1 GB), CLEVELAND (76-86, 5 GB), CHICAGO (73-89, 8 GB), KANSAS CITY (69-93, 12)
AL WEST. The two best teams in the league go back and forth all season, but Texas ekes it out ahead of Los Angeles. Pujols wins the batting title (.342), hits 41 HR, and generally kicks butt.
TEXAS (95-67), LOS ANGELES (94-68, 1 GB), SEATTLE (83-79, 12 GB), OAKLAND (69-93, 26 GB)
NL EAST. More surprises! Washington runs away with the division! Phillies come in last! (Philadelphia started fine but faded after both Ryan Howard and Roy Halladay suffer injuries.)
WASHINGTON (95-67), ATLANTA (84-78, 11 GB), MIAMI (83-79, 12 GB), NEW YORK (81-81, 14 GB), PHILADELPHIA (78-84, 17 GB)
NL CENTRAL. Cincinnati and Milwaukee battle most of the season, but the Reds pull away in September. Joey Votto is the best player in the league. Pittsburgh loses 100 games for the worst record in baseball.
CINCINNATI (98-64), MILWAUKEE (89-73, 9 GB), ST LOUIS (82-80, 16 GB), HOUSTON (80-82, 18 GB), CHICAGO (72-90, 26 GB), PITTSBURGH (62-100, 36 GB)
NL WEST. Arizona wins. The Dodgers waste another great season by Kemp.
ARIZONA (88-74), SAN FRANCISCO (78-84, 10 GB), LOS ANGELES (77-85, 11 GB), SAN DIEGO (70-92, 18 GB), COLORADO (69-93, 19 GB)
PLAYOFFS. Tampa crushes Los Angeles 10-3 to win the AL Wildcard game; Milwaukee shuts out Atlanta 6-0 to advance in the NL.
The division series all go 5 games. Tampa over Texas; Boston over Detroit. The top two teams in the NL go down as Arizona upsets the Reds and Milwaukee upsets Washington.
Milwaukee beats Arizona in 6 in the NLCS. Tampa and Boston play 7 games. In game 7, Boston leads 6-5 going into the 9th inning but Tampa ties it. The game goes to the 11th where John Shelby hits a 2-run HR for Tampa.
The World Series is anti-climactic. Tampa beats Milwaukee in 5.
Imaginary congratulations to the Tampa Bay Rays!
