Grenada shock Rothes in the Semis
The Grenada Kings are through to the first KBA Cup final after upsetting the Rothes Blue Jays in 10 innings this afternoon. Having trailed for the almost the whole game, The Kings scored in the 8th and 9th to tie the game, before Johan Kristoffersson (2-4, Run) tagged-up from third on a Helmer Hjelm (0-4, RBI, K, 2 LOB) fly out to give the Kings the victory. Designated Hitter Liam Zetterlund had doubled the Blue Jays lead in the 7th with a solo blast to left field.
Grenada will go into tomorrow night's decider as big underdogs after the Megopolis Titans sunk the Cardinals at home, 3-2. Hendrick Rasmussen homered to deep right field in the 6th to break the deadlock in which the Cardinals came from behind twice to level the scores.
The KBA Cup final is scheduled to start at 7:00pm West time at Hilltop Field at Exhibition Square.
Sandford City snap-up Erich Schbert
In what will surely be a major coup for the club, the Sandford City Bulldogs have completed the signing of 23-year old rookie Erich Schbert to a minor league contract. The right-handed Shortstop was released by the Tranent Fury earlier today after a dismal Spring Training where he only managed 8 hits on 45 plate appearances with 2 Runs and 2 RBI for an average of just .178.
Whilst Tranent isn't packed with talent at Short, Fury manager Larry Horton said Schbert just isn't ready for the Super League: "He is only a Division 2 player at best at the moment.
"His Spring Training was unusually poor, and he was just taking up a valuable roster spot, something that we need to take advantage of".
They did just that, completing the signing of 18-year old Reliever Andreas Coate who spent Spring Training at Port Redhill, having traded for the youngster form Xyport in late 2011. The right-hander pitched 4.1 innings over 3 games in Spring, giving up 4 runs on 4 hits whilst walking 5 and striking out 2.
