Yeah, this is one of the craziest starts to the MLB season I can ever remember. Go play 2 games that most people didn't even know counted and then go back to spring training. Just weird
I'm guessing that if they marketed the games as exhibition in Japan they assumed the turnout wouldn't be as good as the games actually counting.
