Blue Lake Outduels Valmara 1-0 In 12 Innings
In one of the classic games in Pro Cup history, the Blue Lake Blue Sox outlasted the Valmara Vipers 1-0 in 12 innings at Harbor Stadium to take a 2-1 lead in the series... 5 Blue Sox hurlers combined to shut out the Vipers on 10 hits... game three came to an abrupt end in the twelfth, when RF Gerry Kazmarek botched a fly ball hit by CF Chris Halley for a two-base error... the next batter 3B Matt Thompson (.355) promptly cracked a game-winning base hit to end it... Gil Donahue (2-0/0.00) blanked Valmara in the top of the twelfth for the victory with the loss going to Chris Phillips 0-1/9.00), who also came on the last inning.

The Vipers did everything but win the game... they left 15 runners on and outhit Blue Lake 10 to 6... even had 4 double plays, but still didn't win... there were no extra base hits in the game... Halley (.288) and C Roger Webb (.281) led the winners with a pair of hits each... CF Teddy Szymanski (.269) with 3-6 and LF Reno DiBenedetto (.167) with 2-6 topped Valmara at the plate...

Billy Trakas started for Blue Lake, but had to leave in the third with an injury... Chris Landry worked through the sixth, striking out 6 batters... followed by Derek Joubert, who worked the seventh and eighth... Freddy Camp entered in the ninth and went through the eleventh... Valmara has standout pitching, too, with starter Carroll Cain stopping Blue Lake on 4 hits over 8 innings... and Ivan Guzek held them hitless in the ninth and tenth.
