"Another one? Seriously? God dammit!"

"Woah now Nick settle down, it's alright. It's just one game..."

"You struck out 11 and allowed two runs and lost! Again! In eight innings! How many times has that happened to you?"

"No idea. Not that many..." (Actually, the Angels have lost a game in which John has allowed two or fewer runs in seven plus innings six times this season. John had received the loss in four of them. )

"Yeah well... well... get your teammates to start hitting!"

"Heh. Alright Nick, I'll try... I'll talk to you later, I'm gonna head to lunch with Maddie now."

"Alright bro."

It had been a bad game... But John wasn't going to rant to his brother about it. The only thing to do was to allow fewer runs next time.

--------------------------------

The draft had taken place a couple days prior, and with their first pick the Angels had taken SP Enrique Jimenez, 16th overall. He was a Puerto Rican who'd gone to college at Ball State, in Indiana, going 27-16 over his three years there, with a 3.28 ERA.

John called him up after getting back from lunch.

"Hey, Enrique?"

"Yeah... Who is this?"

"It's John Anderson. I play for the Ang-"

"Oh yeah! Hi! It's an honor to meet you!"

"Haha thanks... But listen, I just wanted to talk to you, to see how everything is going. I know we submitted an offer to you, and I just want to say, the sooner you sign, the better. I waited until the deadline, and that set me back quite a bit."

"Well you turned out pretty well, right?"

They talked for an hour, about many things, ranging from Enrique's college career to what being a professional pitcher entailed.

At the end, John had to head to the park, but he felt much better about himself and his career.

John is now 8-5, with a 2.08 ERA. He leads the American League in iK/BB, opponents average, and FIP, and leads all of baseball in WAR, K/9, K's, innings pitched, and WHIP. Not a bad year, except for that W-L record.
