John Anderson's May showed why the Angels drafted him 12th overall. Sure, he won the Rookie of the Year Award last year, but that was with some rather mundane stats (for a supposed ace, anyway). In May, he had one awful start (8 runs, 7 earned, in 6.1 innings). Other than that, he was incredible. He allowed 2 runs only once, in his first start. He threw a one hit shutout, and allowed only 1 run in his other four starts. With the exception of his worst start, John went 3-1 with 2 complete games, including a complete game, 1-0 loss on the last day of the month, and a 1.125 era. In one start, he pitched 8 innings of one run ball, before seeing his teammates blow the lead in the 9th (they would proceed to win in extras).
The Angels, sparked by John's performance, went 17-12, taking a 1 game lead over the Rangers in AL West.
