bmcg1709, I wondered how long it would take before someone posted that definition. If our U.S. friends were not already confused, they will be now!

Coming back to players with a cricket background making it in baseball, I mentioned in an earlier post seeing a game at the Oval [a cricket ground in London] a game between Red sox and Mets minor leaguers and as part of the festivities, they held a Home Run Derby with some famous cricketers participating. there were, in particular, 2 England international batsmen [batters!] - Alec Stewart and Graham Thorpe - and one fast bowler [pitcher!] - "Syd" Lawrence. In fact, the batters did very poorly, as they seemed to be concentrating too much on seeing the ball and executing technically perfect swings. Lawrence - a huge, muscular, guy, just swung the bat as hard as he could. Not surprisingly, he whiffed a lot, but when he connected, it went MILES!
