Wilson Fans 9 In 2-0 Shutout Of Dodgers
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Giants Nip Padres 2-1 In 11

Los Angeles- In the opening game of the biggest series in the franchise's eight year history, the Houston Astros got a stellar performance from starting pitcher Don Wilson who held the Dodgers to just three hits and two walks while striking out nine in a 2-0 shutout victory, his 15th of the season. Locked into a tense pitcher's duel with LA's Don Sutton, it was Wilson himself who came through offensively, slamming an RBI double in the third, and connecting on an RBI sac fly in the fifth. Now faced with a do or die situation, the Dodgers send Claude Osteen(16-9 2.32) to the mound against the Astros Larry Dierker(18-10 2.55 ERA)

Giants Survive In 11
Needing a sweep just to have a chance, the Giants went into the 8th inning of yesterday's game with the Padres trailing by the score of 1-0, but a solo homer from Ron Hunt tied the game at 1-1 and sent it into extra innings where in the bottom of the 11th, it was Hunt who came through again, slamming a line drive base hit to left, scoring Dick Dietz and giving San Francisco the 2-1 win. Later on today, the Giants will send Juan Marichal(23-8 1.99 ERA) to the hill to face off against the Padres Clay Kirby(7-20 4.18 ERA)
