And another difference between pitching and bowling is that it's acceptable to hit the batsman, as long as the ball bounces first. In theory you're not trying to hit him, but in practice that's what happens a lot. You'll often see bowlers pitch the ball so short that it bounces up around the batsman's head...and if they get hit it's their fault not the bowlers.
