Tight Races In IPA At Mid-Year
Almost all of the IPA divisions are up for grabs at the halfway point in the season. 7 of the 8 races are hotly-contested so far, only the RU West is a runaway. Middlefield has made shambles of it with a stunning 12-game bulge and appears headed for its fourth pennant in a row. In the RU East, Eastshore and Wynnamac are deadlocked for the top spot, both with good leads over third place Beechwood. Wynnamac won the division last season. At mid-season in the RU North it's Valmara on top of Ancona by 2 games and 5 in front of Ranford. Last year's top team Far Mountain is fourth and 12 games off the pace. In the most surprising race perennial also-ran St. John has surged from 7th place to the penthouse this year and possesses a 4-game lead on Waleska in the RU South. The Westerners won the division last season.
The closest race is in the TU South, where it is a 3-way tie between Arroyo Grande, defending champ Ginza and Colchester with fourth place Summerland only 4 games behind. 5 teams are in the hunt in the TU East with Tuckanarra 2 games up on Red Bluff and 3 ahead of Midway, Ozarka and defending Pro Cup champ South Fork. The TU North is a 4-team affair, headed up Mahaska. The Haymakers are 2 games in front of defending division champ Fairfax and 3 ahead of North Hills and White River. The pennant race is still in doubt in the TU West, too. Bay St. Clair currently holds a 4-game edge over Chicopee and 5 games over Arlon and last year's flag winner Rolling Hills.
