COOPERSTOWN TONIGHT

Sunday April 18

BOSTON RALLY FOR DRAMATIC WIN

Fred McGriff hammered a grand slam in the top of the 9th inning at Fenway Park to spoil a late Red Sox lead. Pedro Martinez made a mistake and it appeared that the Sox were destined to go down in this one down two runs with three outs to go.

With two men on and one out the perfect man came up to the plate in Ted Williams. Dramatic Williams lined a double to right that scored two and tied the game. Williams is so good a clutch hitter that his confidence may have intimidated Jimmy Key on the mound.

With two outs then Yastrzemski showed his class by driving a single to right that scored Williams, who had moved to third, and ending a very god game.

"Ill take Yaz and Williams in the cluth each and everytime" said Red Sox manager Terry Francona after the win. The Red Sox have now won three games in their last at bat. Boston is 6-5 and still three games back.
