Seventeen Inning Battle At Busch
A day after the Red Birds buried the Dodgers, Sandy Koufax took the ball against Bob Gibson and neither man wanted to give up the game or the momentum in the four game series.
The game would be one for the books as it lasted five hours and the two aces threw over 300 pitches and struck out 20 men. In the end however neither man was on the mound when the game was decided by a Pee Wee Reese home run. Reese isnt known for getting the big home run but is known for coming through when his team needs him the most.
"This is the kind of game that keeps your team going over the long haul of the season." said Reese, "no one wants to fight for 17 innings and lose."
