I've just started playing and i've played through several seasons. I let the owner fire me if he gets too angry, and I've been fired once in one of my games.

I've had a couple of seasons where according to my scout (who was rated as at least "excellent" in every category) my team should be cruising to the playoffs, but instead sink in the standings and end up with a 70 win season. I've also had a season where the team should be pretty bad, but ended up winning 94 games (and missing the wildcard).

I'm not criticizing the game for this unpredictability, actually I think it's one of the really interesting parts of it. Some teams look better on paper than they perform in real life, and as a GM, you try your hardest to fix the problems as they pop up (2 starting infielders and 2 starting outfielders and the #2 starter all on the DL at the same time....) with trades, call-ups and just trying to plug the holes when they appear, and pray the owner has enough patience to let you ride it out and make changes for next year!

The incidence of injuries has forced me to really think about the depth that I have in the higher levels of the organization, stockpiling some almost-major-league-ready talent at the AAA level. Finally, just like in real life, you can never have enough pitching!
