Tim McCarver And Cardinals Light Up The Night



The St. Louis Cardinals had the biggest output thus far in the Cooperstown season and pounded the Dodgers by scoring 19 runs. The Cardinals appear to be much stronger then many thought at the plate as the likes of Albert Pujols and Stan Musial are heating up. Still few expected power numbers from Tim McCarver.

McCarver went 5-5 against the Dodgers and drove in 5 runs. The cather is batting .423 on the season and is making a statement that he was the right choise as the Cardinal backstop.

Both the Cardinals and the Dodgers are 5-3 follwing this result.

Harry Heilmann gave the Tigers the lead in the 10th inning but in the bottom of the same innings the Twins took the game. Justin Morneau tied the game with a single and then Willie Hernndez walked in the winning run to blow his second save of the season.

A good game in Chicago as Black Jack McDowell goes the distance and knocks off the Angels. Eddie Collins contributed three hits while Frank Thomas walked three times but is still only batting .136.

Tim McCarver hits a grand slam in the first inning and drives in five runs while Stan Musial also drives in five as the Cardinals score 19. Don Newcombe and then Fernando Valenzuela had nothing on the mound in the big Cardinal win.

A seven run third inning for the Pirates who get past the Reds and a struggling Jose Rijo. Willie Stargell drove in four and the Reds continue to struggle at the plate.
