On your manager options screen there should be a series of tic boxes showing what events you want that will stop autoplay and let you react. Injuries, trade offers, awards, etc. There is also the capability of tuning what level of news you want to receive. Your team only, your team and league, your organization, etc.
Mix and match until you get the control you like.
